Visitor Arrivals Go
Up By 18% in October
The number of tourists coming to Nepal grew significantly in the first
10 months of the year 2007. In October, tourist arrivals by air went up
by 18 percent as compared to the number of the corresponding period of
2006. This figure is up by 6,617.
Tourist arrivals from China and Sweden increased by 133 percent and 91.7
percent respectively, according to a press release issued by the Nepal
Tourism Board (NTB).
Similarly, the number of tourists from Denmark, Austria, Norway,
Belgium, the Republic of Korea and Germany shot up by 88.6 percent, 56.9
percent, 55.4 percent, 50.3 percent, 37 percent and 33.3 percent
respectively. This is a clear indication that tourist arrival is
reviving from the major generating markets.
Similarly, arrivals from other upcoming markets such as Bangladesh and
Sri Lanka have increased by 51.1 percent and 56.6 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, the number of tourists from Canada and the United States of
America went up by 43.2 percent and 40.3 percent respectively.
However, arrivals from India declined. NTB considers the negative growth
as a result of cheap tour packages offered by the Southeast Asia and the
European countries.
As Cosmic Air has resumed its flights on Kathmandu-New Delhi sector and
some other airlines are reported to be planning to increase their flight
frequencies on this sector, tourists arrival from India is expected to
increase in the next few months. |
