Nepalese Tourism Continues To Grow

As peace process in Nepal has continued, tourist arrivals in the country have increased significantly in the year 2007. Arrival figures of the last 11 months indicate that the year 2007 is likely to be the most important period in terms of tourist arrivals.

During the period, a total of 466,506 foreign tourists visited Nepal, according to a press statement issued by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

In the Nepalese tourism history, a record high number of 491,504 tourists had come to the country in 1999. In that year, altogether 453,806 tourists had entered the country by the end of November.

In the first 11 months of 2007, the number of tourists visiting Nepal by air went up by 28.6% to 330,455. During the same period of 2006, the number of tourists stood at 257,054.

Meanwhile, 136,051 tourists came to the country by land in the first 10 months of this year.

Tourism entrepreneurs are optimistic that the tourist arrival trend would continue to increase in future. It is also historic that seven foreign airlines from various countries have started operating their scheduled flights to Nepal within a year. Some more airlines are in the pipeline.
