Nepalese Tourism

As peace process in Nepal has continued, tourist arrivals in the country
have increased significantly in the year 2007. Arrival figures of the
last 11 months indicate that the year 2007 is likely to be the most
important period in terms of tourist arrivals.
During the period, a total of 466,506 foreign tourists visited Nepal,
according to a press statement issued by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
In the Nepalese tourism history, a record high number of 491,504
tourists had come to the country in 1999. In that year, altogether
453,806 tourists had entered the country by the end of November.
In the first 11 months of 2007, the number of tourists visiting Nepal by
air went up by 28.6% to 330,455. During the same period of 2006, the

Meanwhile, 136,051 tourists came to the country by land in the first 10
months of this year.
Tourism entrepreneurs are optimistic that the tourist arrival trend
would continue to increase in future. It is also historic that seven
foreign airlines from various countries have started operating their
scheduled flights to Nepal within a year. Some more airlines are in the
pipeline. |
